Policing Tests

Police could you? Justice vsmall

Aptitude Test

Joining the police force is one of the most important decisions you will make in your life. The role of a police officer requires a unique skill set, is intellectually demanding, is physically tough and has an impact on your way of life. For all these reasons, it is important that you make the right decision. Failing to recognise what is required and what you have to offer can lead you to make a wrong decision. The consequence will be shattered ambitions.

We believe that the police force needs different people to deal with our constantly changing and diverse society. There is a place for you in the police force providing you have the attributes and aptitude for the job.

Try the Aptitude Test to see if you have the right outlook to become a police officer. The result of the test will give you advice and guidance on how you can develop yourself to assist your application to the police service.

Numerical and Verbal Logical Reasoning Tests

When you attend the Assessment Centre you will be required to undergo a series of tests. Two of these will be a test of your numerical and verbal logical reasoning. Assess you own skills here by completing the tests below. When you have completed the tests you will be given the result and some advice and guidance on how you might improve your scores. Further tests are available in the paperback ‘The Police Selection Process’ - more details of how to purchase the book can be found here.

Psychometric Tests

These tests are designed to complement the ISP paperback ‘Police Selection Boards’ and are specifically focused on identifying your team and leadership styles that are explained in the book. By completing them you will be able to understand your own styles in the work place.

Once you have completed the questionnaires you will be provided with a numerical score in each of the four key style components: Direct, Spirited, Considerate and Systematic. You should insert the scores for team style into the appropriate boxes on page 71 of the chapter on team working and the scores for leadership style into the boxes on page 107 of the chapter on leadership. You can then interpret your scores from the explanation provided and determine your dominant style.

To get the best results from the tests it is recommended that you set aside 15 minutes for each test and complete them in an environment where you will not be disturbed. You must also follow the instructions carefully.

Answer each question in the context of the work place and try to be honest about yourself. Distorting the test or not being honest about how you feel and act in certain circumstances will devalue the results and not provide you with an accurate assessment of your personal style.
