  • Discover your promotion potential
  • Develop your leadership skills
  • Demystify promotion selection processes

The main reason why candidates seeking promotion are unsuccessful is because they fail to understand their own skills, fail to develop themselves and fail to deal with the selection process effectively.

The PDC is designed to deal with all of these issues to ensure candidates are successful at the Application, Assessment and Interview stages of the process.

Promotion skills only need to be learned once. You will use what you learn on the PDC throughout your career.

The PDC is a three day course, for 12 delegates, run over a period of three months. The three days cover ‘Foundation Skills’, ’Operational Skills Development’ and ’Application Form and Interview Skills’.

Day 1 - Foundation Skills

An intensive day, packed full of essential information you need to know about personal development and the promotion process. Prior to the PDC delegates complete a questionnaire to identify their Team Member and Leadership Styles which forms a key feature of the self-discovery phase of the course.

The course modules are comprehensive and include:

  • Discovering personality
  • Personal development
  • Team working
  • Leadership
  • Principles of effective management
  • Matching personality to role and strategy
  • Preparing competency based answers
  • Personal action planning

Throughout the day team exercises focus on communication, team working, leadership, effective management and preparing competency based answers. There is a team exercise that demonstrates the importance of using key leadership behaviours.

Each module also contains a Self Assessment element that delegates can use to determine their immediate development needs and formulate a Personal Action Plan.

Delegates each receive a very comprehensive Work Book, network with other applicants and, after the course, will be supported with advice and guidance.

Day 2 - Operational Skills Development

This day takes place six weeks after the ‘Foundation Day’ to ensure there has been sufficient time to assimilate the learning and complete personal action planning.

After a review, key operational skills are identified for development in team exercises. There is input on diversity and a team exercise.

This is followed by a module on interview skills that include:

  • Setting the interview agenda
  • Dealing with topics
  • Answering questions
  • Managing the interview

Further Self Assessment and Personal Action Planning conclude the day.

Day 3 - Application & Interview Skills

This day brings together the work covered in the two previous days and is a great opportunity to focus personal development and practice interviews in a safe environment.

Delegates work in a team to critique a candidate application form and then prepare their own application for promotion.

Cartoon InterviewThey will then appear on a formal ‘mock’ interview board, as a candidate and a panel member, where they practice the delivery of their ‘agenda setting’ answer and three other prepared answers to interview questions using the techniques previously learned.

Full debriefing of performance is provided through discussion and the use of video.
